In this episode Christopher shows the application of the Zohar in an amazing way:
According to our sages, a איש (male) does not become known as אדם (man)until he is conjoined with אשה (woman) and he learns shalom bayis. For until that time the איש (male) is not a אדם (man) he is an ביח (animal). The reason is the ביח (animal) does not know compromise, he does not know selflessness, he does what he does simply to survive. His intellect is not challenged because the ביח (animal) operates solely from instinct. For until he is given the challenge of maintaining שלום (peace) that comes from the אשה (female) the איש (male) doesn’t know how to shed the attributes of הביח (the animal) within himself. This is also why the sages say that the verse, “you will not start a אש (fire) on the Shabbat” (Exodus 35:3) is speaking of shalom bayis and not an actual אש (fire). Because if you have marital strife on the Shabbat then the אשה (female) looses a part of herself which represents her honor, her honor is represented in the second letter of G-d’s holy name, the ה. So you take the ה away from her and the אשה (female) turns into an אש (fire). The reason why the ה represents the woman and the י in the 4 letter name represents the man, is because the י is the humblest of letters. It is the smallest, symbolizing servitude or עבדות (Servanthood). As the verse says, “But it will not be thus among you. For whoever wishes to be gadol among you will become your mesharet (servant).” (Matthew 20:26). The sages day that a אדם (man) is the עבד (Servant) of his אשה (female). That an איש (male) is made to be the giver and the אשה (female) is to be the receiver. Thus, considering the י is within the word איש (male) he must give his י (symbolizing) his servitude to her so that she may become one with him. This is why when you add the numerical value of אב (Father) and אם (mother) you get the same numerical value for אדם (man). Thus showing he is complete and has been given the name אדם (man). When the י and the ה from man and woman are conjoined, then you get the two letter name of G-d. And it is through them becoming one. ![]()
